Ambulatory Cardiology

Ambulatory Family Medicine In The Community
This rotation is spent in the office of a practicing Family Physician. The selection of a site is based on the resident’s eventual practice goals – for example, a resident who expects to practice in a rural setting is placed in a rural practice for the block.

Ambulatory Pediatrics
Residents spent this month working in a high-volume ambulatory pediatrics clinic associated with Oak Bend Medical Center hospital. A broad spectrum of pathology is seen, as well as plenty of healthy children

Community Care
The resident spends the month running the inpatient service of a nearby rural hospital, Oak Bend Medical Center.

Community Medicine/Hospice
This rotation exposes the resident to a wide range of outpatient experiences, including school-based clinics, public health facilities, and hospice care.

Family Medicine Inpatient Service
The second year Family Medicine rotation takes place at Memorial Hermann Southwest Hospital. Each resident is assigned patients on the inpatient service. The resident, in consultation with the faculty attending and senior resident, manages the patient's care.

Gynecology
This ambulatory block provides the resident with a variety of experiences relevant to women's health. During a portion of the month, the resident will staff an ambulatory gynecology clinic. This rotation gives the resident experience in several different gynecological procedures.

Geriatrics

Neurology
Memorial Hermann uses the curriculum developed here, and currently being site tested at many residencies throughout the country. A CD-ROM specifically written for the family physician is used, as well as both inpatient and ambulatory neurology.

Obstetrics
This rotation takes place at Memorial Hermann Southwest Hospital. Residents spend time on the Labor and Delivery unit, as well as working with genetic counselors and perinatologists.  The second year resident also works in the prenatal clinic at the Fort Bend Family Medicine Center.

Occupational Medicine
This rotation provides the resident with experience in managing work-related injuries. Residents work with an Occupational Medicine specialist. The curriculum for this rotation can be customized to the resident's interests and needs.

Ophthalmology

Psychiatry and Behavioral Science
The resident spends time in an outpatient psychiatric clinic. Both adult patients and children are seen and evaluated, under the supervision of psychiatrists and other mental health workers.

Sports Medicine
This rotation provides the resident with first-hand experience managing soft-tissue injuries and illnesses. The resident will spend time with sports medicine experts, physical therapists, athletic trainers and orthopedists.
