Rotations/Student Electives

Medical Student Electives

Memorial Family Medicine Residency Program offers electives for fourth-year medical students who plan to specialize in Family Medicine. Electives are 4 weeks in length. Students attend daily teaching sessions with the Residents, along with their assigned clinical duties.

Ambulatory Family Medicine:

In this rotation, you will see patients in our Family Medicine Center – Physicians at Sugar Creek. You will gain experience in the full spectrum of Family Medicine – acute care, management of chronic problems, injuries, minor procedures, well care and maternity care.

Inpatient Family Medicine:

Join our faculty and residents in this busy, adult inpatient medicine service, where you will be part of a dynamic team of providers. Our Family Medicine Service sees patients at Memorial Hermann Southwest hospital. You will gain valuable knowledge and experience as you participate in bedside care and daily teaching rounds.

Combined Ambulatory and Inpatient Family Medicine – our recommended choice!:

Split your four weeks, spending two weeks in Ambulatory FM and two weeks in Inpatient FM.

To apply:

Submit the Senior Student Elective Application.
Review of applications begins in April for the next academic year. Due to a limited number of rotation slots, not all applications are approved. Once your application is reviewed, you will be contacted on the approval status. We do not offer electives in June, July, or over the Dec/Jan holiday break.
