Medical Student Elective

Combined Ambulatory and Inpatient Family Medicine :

During your four week elective rotation with our program, you will spend two weeks seeing patients in our Family Medicine Center, Physicians at Sugar Creek. Alongside our faculty and residents, you will learn to provide the full spectrum of Family Medicine: acute care, management of chronic problems, injuries, minor procedures, well care and maternity care. You will also experience two weeks with our faculty and residents on our busy, adult inpatient medicine service at Memorial Hermann Southwest Hospital. There you will be part of a dynamic team, gain valuable knowledge, and be involved in serving our diverse patient population as you participate in bedside care and daily teaching rounds.

To Apply for a Medical Student Elective:

We will accept applications for our elective rotation using AAMC’s Visiting Student Learning Opportunities VSLO program beginning in February for the following academic year. Our application deadline is April 1. Due to a limited number of rotation slots, not all applications are approved. Once your application is reviewed, you will be contacted regarding the approval status by early May. We do not offer electives in June, July, or over the December/January holiday break.
